There are an estimated 300,000 nuclear weapons worldwide. Certain amount of that estimated 300,000 nuclear weapons worldwide remain vulnerable to theft and purchase by terrorist. The amount of nuclear material worldwide is capable of producing over 240,000 nuclear weapons. Reports indicate that there are criminal networks that possess specialized nuclear design knowledge and are willing to sell their expertise to terrorist organizations.
Terrorist that are seeking nuclear weapons have three possible means of obtaining them : 1) buy and/ or 2) steal and/ or 3) build one. Each of these options provide early indicators of terrorist intentions. These indicators and options might be identifiable in advance to prevent nuclear terrorism.
