2005 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treat of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

2005 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons from Monday, May 2, 2005 to Friday, May 27, 2005. Organized by and at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The President elect of the review conference is Ambassador Sérgio de Queiroz Duarte of Brazil.

The review conference is based upon Article VIII, Paragraph 3 of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons which requires a review of the operation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons every five years. Every five year provision was reaffirmed by the 1995 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, 2000 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and extension conferences.

Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons is designed to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament.
