European Union, B6-0181(2005), and Hezbollah (Iran)

European Union Parliament passed B6-0181(2005) classifying Hezbollah (Iran) as a terrorist group and the Council of the European Union should take necessary steps to preventing and ending terrorists actions by Hezbollah (Iran).

The European Union Parliament action marks a turning point in the European Union attitude toward Hezbollah (Iran) . Follows similar actions by France which banned al-Manar (Hizballah's satellite Television Network/ Iran) in late 2004 and Hezbollah (Iran) being described as a terrorist group in Germen Courts in late 2004. At the same time, Hezbollah (Iran) has not been designated by the European Union as a terrorist organization. Hezbollah (Iran) has been designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the United States State Department and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity by the Treasury Department. Hezbollah (Iran) is also banned in Canada, Australia, and Great Britain.
