China and North Korea

China must persuade North Korea to end their nuclear weapons program. Japan, China, Russia, and South Korea must revive the stalled dialogue. China has the ability to revive the stalled dialogue and maybe end North Korea nuclear weapons program. China shares North Korea longest border and is the major trading partner and major income source for North Korea. Even so, China does not want to impose sanctions or economic pressure on North Korea. China does not believe sanctions or economic pressure would be effective, instead China prefers to end the North Korea nuclear weapons program through dialogue. Dialogue seems to be fading as an option for North Korea.

United States Department of Education, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, and Federal Student Tracker System

The United States Department of Education is seeking approval to create a federal student tracker system that would record the college activities of students and replace the current Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System to provide federal officials accurate measures of institutional accountability and program effectiveness for policy decisions.

The federal student tracker system would require a centralized federal database and secure off-line storage. Once approved, the federal student tracker system would be tested during the 2006 to 2007 academic year and full implementation of the federal student tracker system is planned during the 2007 to 2008 academic year. The federal database is being designed to replace the current Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. The federal student tracker system would provide student names, social security numbers, number of courses taken , credits earned, degrees completed, and actual education costs.
